Sat Feb 23

Jaque has had a good day today. Her friend Kelsie had great night last night visiting and catching up with all the news of friends and update on ballgames. Kelisie also bought a beautiful hunter green blanket with her name and school name with her mascot on it. It sure is pretty. Every time I would check on them last night they had their heads together reading emails and checking out blog site. Kelsie helped Jaque with her my space.

It was great seeing a smile on her face.

Thank you Kelsie for brightening up her day.

Her daddy's good friend from high school(Eugene) flew here from Oklahoma to spend weekend with her. We all went out to dinner last night then we all walked to the Fresh Market by the hospital. Jaque had a good time there. She got all kinds of stuff to eat.

PawPaw Phillip and Melinda came to see her this morning on their way to see Aaron. She enjoyed her visit with them.

Her cousin Karen came to visit this afternoon.

Jaque got to go out and eat again tonight. She had a great time. When we got back to the hospital. Jaque and Eugene played pool together. Jaque is pretty good. Kelsie and Chris played ping pong then after Jaque and Eugene finished their game Chris and Kelsie played a game of pool too. Kelsie beat Chris hahaha.

Kelsie is paintng Jaque's toenails right now. Every time Kelsie would start to paint her toenails Jaque's foot would move causing her to mess up. It was so funny watching her paint her nails.

Jaque we are so proud of you and the great improvements we see in you everyday.
Keep up the good work. Remember God is so good. Keep up your prayers and cont to believe.

Kelsie you are such a blessing being here for Jaque. Jaque is really enjoying you being here.

February 22 update

Hey guys. It has been such a busy week. Jaque is in PT right now, so thought I would give you the low down on how it has been.

We have still been having the blood pressure issues, but it is getting better. She has learned so much this week. We have done transfers (where she does the work) to a couch, and into a car. She did so great. Her theraphist Jeannie told Jaque she was inpressed with her. She said that if she starts getting into trouble during a transfer, she never quits or looks back, she just takes to best route forward and gets herself out of the jam. Typical Jaque, huh?

She also got to go to the weight room. Coach -- get ready, I think that the girls will have their own personal trainer when she gets out of her. She is really going to learn a lot about weights, technique and benefits of different machines. And you all know Chris - he is right there thinking of ways that he and Bo McKee and modify things to build then ones she is working on right now.

The airport outing was good. She got really sick at her tummy on the train part. It is fast start and fast stop, but she did better on the bus! Again, she was the only girl. It was interesting to me that the fact that she was manuvering in a chair did not botter he in the least bit. Well, except when she make Chris push her on the carpet.

She gets blood thinner shots once a night to ensure that we do not get clots. The exciting thing is that she has started feeling those shots. And yesterday felt pain in her lower back. Weird for a mom to want her child to feel pain, but these are great signs from our Lord above that his is working hard within her.

Also they put her on a machine that will chech for muscle movement in her legs. OK EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION HERE! This is an important machine in the spinal cord injury community. This machine test to see if the muscles are still awake and to see if when electrically stimulated, will they move. In true Jaque form, the did. They said that they got a great response. PRAISE GOD. This does not mean that she is moving on her own yet, but means that she has all the potential in the world, and that from heaven above. We are still seeing toes move, and she moved her foot about 1/4 inch the other day. At night she is restless in her legs. Some is spasm, but some see to be so natural, subconscience movement. Right now their main focus is her upper body and getting it ready for her to be 100% indenpendant. Then they will work their way down. Main thing now is to wait for the swelling in the spinal column to go down, and things start firing again.

It is hard to write in this how well she is doing. I wish you could all come and see those around us hurting. There are so many that need prayers, and so many that do not have her will or faith. But through her smile, she is making an impact. She is so far ahead of tha game, so far.

Lastly, Mimi updated the blog. She is so great for keeping that going. I just wanted to let everyone know that the football she mentioned is something started by a patient long ago. It is passed, as she said, when one leaves. Upon leaving, that person gives it to the one they see working the hardest, giving it al, plus 5%. You know how tough Jaque is. When Adam was telling her the story of the football, he was jst telling her how he got it. She was listening with wide open eyes. She said that is soooo cool. Then when he handed it to her, she almost cried. She was speachless. What an honor bestowed to such a deserving young woman. And where does she get her strength?

Through all of you. Through your emails, your text messages, and phone calls. I cannot thank you enough.

God has restored health unto Jaque and is healing her wounds.

Love you all, until next time BE SAFE and wear that seatbelt.

We will get you a date on the coming home party as soon as we get a good idea of when it will be. I hope it will work out where everyone can attend.

Thanks for your prayers and thoughts, Love Carol

Grandma Kay Made it to Atlanta

Jaque looks great. She has the prettiest smile on her face. It is great to see her looking so good. She is doing so good. She transfered herself from her bed to her wheel chair, and did a great job.

We went up on the sixth floor and had a pizza party.

One of Jaque's new friends Adam (the young man that walked up front at church last time I was here and gave his testimony) came up and visited with us also. He is going home tomorrow for a weekend pass. Well they have this football that everyone signs when it is their turn to go home. After they sign it they are to give it to someone that they feel is doing a great job and improving the most. Then when that person gets to go home they are to keep passing it on. Well he gave Jaque the football tonight. It was such a moving moment.

He, Jaque and Chris played catch.

Jaque misses everyone and can't wait to see y'all.

She has heard alot about her new room that several special people are working on for her. She can't wait to see it too.

Uncle Lane you are falling down on your job. I guess I will have to paint her toenails for you. Her mother and I gave her a good pedicure tonight. We are both waiting for our turn Jaque.

Jaque got to go to the Atlanta airport yesterday. She got to board a plane. It was very exciting to her.

They are going on an outting tomorrow to the museum tomorrow if the weather is good. Jaque might get to go. She is looking forward to it.

Keep up the good work. You look so good. Your smile is so beautiful.

Chris and Carol y'all are doing such a wonderful job. Y'all are truley blessed with such a wonderful daughter.

Jaques nick name

Jaque as you know I have been working at hospital every since I got home from visiting you.

Grandpa Larry did take me out for Valentines dinner. We had a great time.

I got stuck at the hospital because of the weather, so I'm sorry I haven't kept up your blog. Guess what I came home tonight just so I could update everyone about your progress.

I have to go back in the morning for my last double shift then on Tuesday I only have to work a day shift yea!!!!!!

I can't wait to get back to you this week. I leave on Thursday. I hear you want me to cook some more good stuff for you.

I am so proud of you. You look great in the picture you sent me. Keep up the good work. I will be there before you know it.

The following is an update from Chris, Carol and Jaque. Hope everyone enjoys the update.

Remember Jaque has a new phone and she can recieve texts on it, also her email. Jaqueshomeplate8@yahoo.com When she sends you an email it comes with my name on it like it is coming from me but it is not. When yahoo shut me down at the begining I had to set her up with a new email using my name but her address. So the email is coming from her. Her new phone number is 1-870-648-9229. Jaque loves to hear from everyone.

Keep praying for her. She is looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

Yes, I said Sporty Spice. That is the new nick name that Jana, Jenny, and Angel (her theraphist) have given Jaque. "Go hard, or go home?" For all of you that know our family, you all know that Jaque has heard this many times. Many times.

Today she is having a tough time with her blood pressure. She is pushing her body harder than it wants to go ... it is saying take a nap, and she is saying "BOW UP AND GET IT DONE." You may or may not know that with low blood pressure, you are tired and somewhat sick at your tummy. So, she is battling that today. One of her therapist told her to call it a morning at 11:30 am and she told me she just asked them to prop her legs up a minute to see if that will help. At lunch I asked her if she was feeling any better, and she said she was not, but had to work herself through it. She is pushing hard to get home to Haworth for a weekend sometime soon.

Of all of the things I could say about Jaque, she is not a person to quit. She is fearless, determined, and very much missing everyone from home. As she fights her daily battles -- she still makes me look like a wimp. And yes, her guns may be small -- but they are making a comeback. She has already asked to be put on a machine that will work out her legs, but they tell her to slow down, that she is not ready for that quite yet.

She said mom, you know how I am pitching when it is hot. She said so hot you just want to give up. She said she did not give up then, and is not going to give up now. She told me her girls (meaning the softball and basketball teams) are counting on her to give 110%, and she is going to give 120% for them.

She has met many people here, one is Joseph. Joseph was involved in an accident 2 weeks after his 16th birthday. His sister is a 11 year old pitcher. Fate, huh? Jaque told her to bring her glove and she would teach her a killer curve next time she comes. Then she has a new friend named Adam. Adam was actually pronounced DOA the night of his accident at the hospital more than two months ago, and stood in church last week on his own. And last but not least Kelli. She is a pretty young girl who is working very hard on her upper body right now. Jaque rec'd a blanet from her friend Katie (Viper chick), and Kelli has the exact same blanket. What are the odds???

One thing we all have in common is our faith. I wanted you all to know that through you, or faith grows daily. When we have a rough day I can lay down at night and know that there are SO many of you pulling for my little angel.

Most of you know that she finally got a replacement for her phone, and is burning the texting from here to there. If you do not have the number, call me or Chris and we will get it to you. If you are texting her for the first time, make sure you add who you are, she lost all of her numbers.

"For God will restore Health unto Jaque and he will heal her of her wounds." Jer 30:17

Good luck to all the McCurtain County Teams during districts. Play hard and Play safe. We love you all, and a special "Make Cake" to those lady lions!!!

Love you all Carol (and Jaq)

Always on the go!!!!!!

Jaque, is doing a fantastic job! They can hardly keep up with her.
She has been shopping! You can't keep a good girl down. If there's a mall around, their going to town. Jaque, found some new shoes and some cool shades. Of course, to prance around in while she's working out. You have to have some good shades when your hanging outdoors. Speaking of working out, she's been given the nickname "Sporty Spice." They just can't keep up with her. No time for brakes, always up to something. Lifting weights, playing football with her dad, and ping pong in between. Whatever she can do she's doing it. Take me out to eat!! They received a pass tonight and went to Ted's. Jaque said the steaks were good. Royalty? Hardly, a lot of hard work being paid off with a good night out. She has definitely deserved it!! She misses everyone and loves to hear from you all. Grandma's sorry for not being able to update the blog. The weather has been crummy here. Icy and rainy no fun at all. So I haven't been able to leave work. I can't wait to come see you next week. I had sooo much fun last time. I'll see you soon. Papa and I are so proud of you and love you very much. See you soon!!! Love you Chris and Carol thank you for being such wonderful parents we're proud.

Our Shining Star

Here are some of Jaque's latest pictures. Now that I figured out how to add them I will update them at least once a week so everyone knows what she is up to and can see her progress. Since she has been in Atlanta I have been able to see her alot and I can tell you there hasn't been a day that I have walked through her door that she hasn't been smiling her beautiful smile. She is such a joy to be around and has such a positive outlook. Her stories never end, she can talk your ears off...as I am sure most of you know. She has already made huge strides and continues to make them daily. Please continue to keep Jaque in your prayers.

Jaque and football

Well guess what? You guessed it Jaque was the only girl out there playing football today for a bit. She did quite well for her first time out. Her mom and dad got to play with her. Mom (carol) and she kicked some you know what. Just wait until Jaque gets alittle stronger and gets the rules to the game down and look out guys you won't stand a chance.

Karen her cousin was there today taking lots of pictures of her. Aunt Prissy kept calling to check out how it was going. Grandma Kay kept taking pictures with her cell phone and sending them to eveyone.

Grandma Ladonna and grandpa Danny are on their way. They are almost here. Jaque can't wait to see them.

Last night Jaque and I stayed up til 5am girl talk. We had a good time. I read the rest of her journal to her and about half of her cards to her. She was overwhelmed at the amount of people that wrote to her and all the kind things people had to say about her and their support and prayers. Jaque was like a chatter box. She laughed so much.

Jaque got to go out on her first outting this evening. She got to go to Target. Her daddy and she rode the Shepherd bus with several other people while grandma Ladonna, grandpa Danny, her mom and myself followed in their Tahoe. It was scarey to her going on her first outting. She had a good time and yes she shopped for lots of goodies. It was very tiring for her but she did enjoy it. Her daddy bought her a basketball goal that hangs up on her door with a basketball, a nerf football and believe it or not her daddy went to Dykes a sporting good store and bought her a softball glove and softball. Oh yea he bought her some awesome looking clothes too.

When we got back to her room opened up several gifts from her grandma and grandpa. She also got gifts from her Aunt Prissy, Uncle Garry, Aunt Terri and of course me. Her little cousin Andrew sent her a Valentine card too.

Uncle Toby and Aunt Larissa are at her house getting her room and things ready for her to come home. Bo and Lorri and others also have been working hard on their house to help get things ready for her trip home in the near future. Thank you so much.

Jaques's spirits are up and she is working real hard.

She thanks everyone for all the encouragement and support. She loves getting emails and cards from every one. She is just now where she can really enjoy emails and letters.

Well we are going to have another little girl talk before we go to bed.

Night everyone she can't wait to get home and see everyone. She misses all of you.

Look out Atlanta here comes Grandma Kay and Ladonna

Jaque we can't wait to see you. We have all missed you like crazy. It was the hardest thing for us to do was when we had to leave you and go home. Oh well we will be there to see you soon. Oh yea grandpa Danny is coming too. Grandpa Larry has to stay and take care of cattle and work but sends his love. Uncle Lane is jealous that I'm getting to come back and see you so soon.

Everyone misses you terribly and wants to come. You still have a lot of people here praying for you everyday.

We are all so proud of the great progress you are making. Also the positive attitude you have.

See you in a little while since it is after midnight here.

Love you so much. Can't wait to see you.

Third day at camp

It is the third day of camp - you know....feel the pain. After two tough days, the third is always hard. Today we started with the Tilt table. It is a device that gets your body and heart use to gravity, as it is when it stands. It is pretty cool, and we got to 60 degrees. I know, does not sound like much, but it really is great. Then we spent about 30 minutes on a massage. Don't get too excited. It is not the OOOOOHHHH kind, but more like the OUUCCHH kind. In fact, her friend Sara from Texarkana had given her a toy bat to take to GA, and she actually broke it when she gripped it while getting rubbed down. But as usual, when hit by a pitch, she just gritted her teeth and stepped back in the batters box.

We also got to get in the new chair. It weighs about 45 lbs, loaded with her backpack. She wheeled all the way to the basement cafeteria, and back. Then she went outside. It is the first real time she has been out since the night of the accident. The sunshine touched her face and she closed her eyes as if God himself had reached down and kissed her.

We had a "medical conf" with one of the Dr's here. She is really great. She first explained that they as Dr's do not know much about the spinal cord. Then she said that most of it will depend on her determination and hardwork. After seeing the softball pictures -- she said that it looked like Jaque was going to do great. Then she said, "Jaque, just how long have you been here." When Jaque told her that we arrived on the second floor on Friday of last week, she just smiled. She said that she was already ahead of the game. She reassured her that most do not get in the good chairs for a few weeks, and that she was progressing very well. Upon leaving, she said that one of the OT's had a daughter that played fastpitch softball and is learning to pitch. She asked Jaque if she would mind meeting her and teaching her a few things.

AIN'T GOD GREAT. Here we are in Atlanta and as GOD is healing Jaque, she will soon be able to use her strengths to help someone else.

Tonight, instead of going to bed early, she asked if we could just go out and around one more time. We checked out the weight room -- man -- coach and Mr Wall would droool.

I hope you all know that the progress we have made and the great attitude and outlook she has is due to two things: # 1 GOD, and # 2 all of you. Your prayers and thoughts have blessed us all so much.

Chris took like 100 pictures today, and will try and get some posted so you can see how great she is looking.

Love and Miss you all back home - Carol & Jaque

JAQUE'S FIRST DAY THERAPY

I received this email update on Jaque from Carol. I was so excited to hear Jaque had a great day. Jaque Grandpa and I miss you so much and wish we could be there every step of the way. You know we are in spirit. We are so proud of you. We knew you would rise above what their expectations were. That is just the kinda girl you are. Can't wait to see you again.

EMAIL UPDATE FROM CAROL

Well, this is how we got our minds ready for today. Jaque and Chris said they were going to treat this just like camp.

And, of course, Jaque came through. We had not even gotten out of the room when Jaque's Dr. Murray came in. They have her on a "restricted program." When the doctor entered, he said - "I must be in the wrong room. Who is this girl with the beautiful smile on her face." Jaque just laughed. After talking with us a bit, he asked her what questions she might have. She asked him when she could get off restricted? He said that he liked that attitude. Also, all new patients have a "grandma chairs." She wanted to know when she could get in one of the cool chairs.

He laughed. He told the group to push her as hard as she wanted to go, and left. Then we went to therapy. She sat up on her own (Chris cross applesauce) on a mat and did well in balancing. She lifted weights, they said 3 lbs, but she did 5 lbs. yes actually lifted (no faking). She also did a lot of stretching. Then the OT told us she would be back. When she came back, she had a cool chair for her. Not only did she have a cool chair, it just so happened to be titanium! Much lighter, more like a hot rod chair. Go figure! She got to sit in it a bit, and get the feel.

She should be in it soon, when her balance gets perfected. The ot/pt Jana and Janice told Chris that he must be a coach, Jaque and I just laughed. Well, everyone up here has heard of Haworth OK. They also know all about most of you reading this. We have still been reading the blog and emails to Jaque.

I think that she is just now starting to grasp the multitude of God's mighty work through all of you. Thank you all for your support and prayers. Today we read Psalm 37:3,7 "Trust in the Lord, and do good...............and wait patiently for him."

A special Thanks to Grandma Kay for keeping the blog going. We love and miss you all!!

Jaque remember these scriptures. Paw Paw and I pray for you everyday. These scriptures will help you make it through the day I know they help me.

Jeremiah 30:17 FOR I WILL RESTORE HEALTH UNTO THEE, AND I WILL HEAL THEE OF THY WOUNDS, SAITH THE LORD.

Mark 11:24 What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them and ye shall have them.

Phillippians 4:13 I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHICH STRENGTHENETH ME

Phillippians 4:19 MY GOD SHALL SUPPLY ALL MY NEEDS ACCORDING TO HIS RICHES IN GLORY BY CHRIST JESUS.

Timothy 1:7 (CJ's favorite scripture.) FOR GOD HATH NOT GIVEN US THE SPIRIT OF FEAR; BUT OF POWER, AND OF LOVE, AND OF A SOUND MIND.

Love you and can't wait for the next update. Everyone here says hi and they love you.

Address for Jaque

Up date from Carol

Hey, we are just sitting here eating fruit loops, and bacon. What a mix, right. It is really different here. It is taking us a few days to get adjusted. They will let her have visitors after 4:30 pm on weekdays and 10:30 am to 9:00pm on weekends. She is in pretty good spirits, but missing everyone tremendously. It is hard to understand how far she has come in just a few weeks. We are pushing her to eat, and she is on a regular diet right now. That is much better. Still counting calories, but can eat what she likes. I have a feeling Chris is really going to know this area by the time we are wrapping up here.

We have this little apartment until March 1. It is free, about three blocks away. We went yesterday and took a shower, left her about an hour and a half, she was sleeping. Perfect size. They let one of us sleep with her, and other can get waiting room or a cot in the gym.

She is doing better. They really seem to try and get her ready to live in the moment. That in itself is hard, when your goal is to not be in to moment, but looking ahead. She really will not start any kind of therapy until Monday.

Patience is what it is going to take with a lot of encouragement. She is starting to hear stories of others and hopefully she will see how lucky she is. We will talk with you soon. Looks like this weekend will be slower paced. Will try and update then better.

Quick update

Jaque is out of ICU has her own room now. It is room 212. Not sure of address yet. I have been working doubles so I will have to talk to Chris or Carol and get address for those of you who asked for it to send cards. Y'all can still email to her @jaqueshomeplate8@yahoo.com, respond on her blog. She can still read them. She will start answering her emails herself when she builds up a little more strength. Chris and Carol help her by reading them to her.

She was at least cleared to eat anything she wanted, so her dad went out and got her a steak last night. She liked that. Today her mom cooked her stir fry.

She toured the grounds yesterday. It is a lot different from Children Hosp in Arkansas. She was upset and wanted to go home yesterday. It is just so much to take in. Today was better. They have a lot of things to do there. She got to see the pool. Once her cuts heal she is looking forward to getting in the pool. They are playing football on Fri against another PT team. Her spirits are up. Everyone's prayers and words of encouragement are working. This helps her to stay close to all her friends, and family. She misses all of you.

She will have a very busy work out schedule. She has rehab at 1pm tomorrow. Mondays are very busy she has therapy in morning, then gets to break for lunch and start more therapy in afternoon. Chris said, they keep her pretty busy with therapy. Her visiting hours are short during the week, I'm not sure about weekends. Will post a better schedule of when you can call and what her schedule as soon as I have it.

She talked to her Grandma Ladonna and Grandpa Danny yesterday. Talked to Grandpa Larry tonight to wish him a happy birthday. She also got to talk to a few others. She still tires easily, but that will soon be better once she gets to start her
rehab.

Chris and Carol have an apartment just a few blocks away. It is very small but has room enough for Carol to cook some special things for Jaque, and for them to take a shower and sleep, but still be close to Jaque. Chris said there are a lot of eating places close, so he can also get her special things she likes.

Chris and Carol ask they we keep Jaque in our prayers and keep sending her words of encouragement. She is along ways from home and misses everyone.

Jaque is awesome and she will give it her all. Jaque is not afraid of a little hard work out. She has great determination.

Jaque keep your eyes on God. Don't look at what the world says. Remember your God is a big God.

We all love you so much.
